Infertility
Chinese herbal medicine shows encouraging success rate with infertility. One Australian government-funded meta-analysis of studies with over 1000 women showed around double the success rate with Chinese herbal medicine than with drug therapy (60% verses 32% over four months). Other studies compared Chinese herbal medicine with IVF and found a similar positive outcome (pregnancy rate of 50% / herbal medicine verses 30% / IVF).
Acupuncture has shown to benefit fertility by reducing stress, thickening uterine lining, inducing ovulation, inhibiting endometrial or fibroid growth, reducing pelvic inflammation, stopping abnormal uterine bleeding, benefiting circulation in the uterus (assisting poor ovarian response or thin uterine lining) and increasing responsiveness to hormonal protocols. In addition, combining acupuncture with ART procedures increased pregnancy rates by 50%.
